If you’ve been watching Hulu with NordVPN and it’s no longer working, NordVPN isn’t currently able to provide any IP addresses that work with Hulu.

This is happening because Hulu tries to block VPNs from accessing its service.

To fix NordVPN not working with Hulu, follow these easy steps.

You can also read to the end of the article to find out why this is happening and how you can prevent it from happening again.

NordVPN not working with Hulu: Simple fixes

To fix NordVPN not working with Hulu, try these fixes in order. If one doesn’t work, move on to the next until you’re able to watch Hulu with a VPN again.

  1. Delete Cookies

    Cookies

You may have noticed that some websites and apps ask you to accept Cookies. Some don’t even bother asking.

Cookies are small files that are used to make your experience with these websites or apps more streamlined.

They aren’t dangerous, but they can contain information that discloses your location.

Hulu can potentially access this information whether you’re using NordVPN or not. And if it finds a mismatch between the IP address NordVPN has given you and the Cookies stored on your device it will block your connection.

A good place to start when trying to fix NordVPN not working with Hulu is deleting your Cookies.

  2. Change to a different US server

    US

If Hulu was working with NordVPN and it suddenly stopped, then Hulu has managed to identify and block the IP address NordVPN has given you.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Hulu has blocked all of the IP addresses NordVPN can provide.

Changing to a different US server will give you a different IP address. If Hulu hasn’t blocked that one then NordVPN will work again.

  3. Upgrade to a more reliable VPN

If neither steps one or two resolves NordVPN not working with Hulu, then all NordVPNs IP addresses have been blocked by Hulu.

This has happened because NordVPN can no longer stay one step ahead of Hulu’s VPN blocking techniques.

The best way to fix this problem is to upgrade to a VPN that can stay ahead of Hulu’s blocks. We recommend ExpressVPN ($6.66/month)

Why isn’t NordVPN working with Hulu?

NordVPN has stopped working with Hulu because all of the IP addresses it currently has available have been identified and blocked by Hulu.

Hulu blocks NordVPN because it only has the rights to broadcast its content in the US.

Because NordVPN is a well-known way of watching Hulu content outside the US, it could result in Hulu facing severe financial repercussions for breaching its content and licensing agreements.

NordVPN isn’t working with Hulu because the streaming service has blocked the IP address it has given you.

How does Hulu block NordVPN?

Hulu uses three techniques to block NordVPN:

  1. The most common technique is all to do with the IP addresses ExpressVPN can provide. ExpressVPN has more customers than IP addresses, and this results in customers having to share IPs. Hulu monitors for an abnormal amount (more than a standard household) of connections coming from the same IP address. When it sees hundreds or thousands of connections coming from the same IP, it knows that this is an ExpressVPN IP address, and it blocks it.
  2. Hulu monitors for IP, DNS and WebRTC leaks that can tip the service off you are using a VPN.
  3. Hulu teams up with GeoIP databases like Maxmind to identify IP addresses. If the IP address your VPN provides is on one of these databases, Hulu will be able to find out where in the world you are connecting to the internet from and it will block you.

Does Hulu still work with VPNs?

Hulu still works with VPNs. I’ve been watching Hulu in New Zealand without any issues.

However, it’s important to know you need to use a VPN with measures to get around the VPN blocking techniques explained above.

I’ve been using ExpressVPN ($6.66/month) and it has worked reliably with Hulu.

ExpressVPN ($6.67/month) has fast servers all over the world, and most importantly, it has measures in place that will stop all of its IP addresses from being blocked by Hulu.

This will allow you to watch Hulu reliably anywhere in the world.

Cons

  • Most expensive VPN on the list

ExpressVPN is an incredibly secure and fast VPN. It’s also very popular, however, it’s expensive. It can do everything Nord and Ivacy can, but prepare to cough up a little bit extra for this VPN.

It allows for an impressive 10 simultaneous connections, it has thousands of IP addresses and it has fast servers all over the world.

It uses the popular OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols that are fast and secure, but not quite as reliable as Nord’s NordLynx protocol.

If you can afford it, you won’t be disappointed with ExpressVPN, it’s app is simple to use, its available on nearly all devices and it has a 30-day money-back guarantee if you change your mind.

Ivacy Prices

A great VPN for a great price.

Pro

  • 5-simultaneous connections
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Fast servers
  • Thousands of IP addresses
  • Live chat support
  • Affordable

Con

  • Only 5 simultaneous devices at a time

Price

  • $1.16/month for 5-years
  • $3.50/month for 1-year
  • $9.99/month for 1 month

Ivacy can do almost everything NordVPN can, at a great price. The only areas where it’s worse than Nord is its servers are a little bit slower, and it can only be used on 5 devices simultaneously. Other than these two features Ivacy is a very effective VPN that will not only unblock ITV Hub when abroad but Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and more.

Ivacy has a unique user interface. Instead of selecting a country where you want a spoof IP address, you need to select a specific server for the streaming service you’re trying to connect to. This isn’t anything to get worried, about it simply means Ivacy is providing you with an IP address that it knows will work with the streaming service you want.

Using Ivacy I was easily able to watch all my favourite streaming services anywhere in the world.

PIA Prices

A great VPN for a great price.

Pros

  • Fast and reliable servers
  • 35,000+ servers
  • 10-simultaneous connections
  • 24/7 Live Chat
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

Price

  • $2.19/month for 3-years
  • $3.33/month for 1-year
  • $11.95/month for 1-month

Cons

  • Slower in less popular countries

Private Internet Access boasts the largest amount of IP addresses on this list. With over 35,000 servers worldwide, the chance of you sharing an IP address with other customers is very small. With that said, the majority of these servers are based in more popular regions like the US and the UK and you may struggle to get a good connection if you’re trying to stream websites from less popular countries.

PIA allows for 10-simultaneous connections, its servers in popular regions are fast and its very secure. You’ll have no issues streaming Netflix, Hulu, ITV, BBC, HBO, Disney+ or any streaming sites with this VPN.

AS is common in the industry PIA also supports live chat functionality for issues you may have, and if you change your mind there’s a 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost Prices

Try before you buy with CyberGhost’s 1-day free trial

Pros

  • Thousands of IP addresses
  • 7-simultaneous connections
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Easy-to-use app

  • $2.75/month for 3 years
  • $3.69/month for 2 years
  • $5.99/month for 6 months
  • $12.99/month for 1 month

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Average speed scores

In terms of popularity, CyberGhost is right in the middle. It’s not a popular VPN but it’s not an unknown secret either. Usually, popularity correlates with performance and this remains true with CyberGhost.

There’s nothing unique about CyberGhost, other than its 1-day free trial which is handy. Its speeds are okay, but not the best and it allows for 7 simultaneous connections.

CyberGhost is designed with security in mind rather than being able to use streaming services outside their broadcast zone. If you’re looking for an anonymous internet connection you can’t beat CyberGhost but it may struggle with some streaming sites.
