NordVPN not working with Vudu

If you’ve been watching Vudu with NordVPN and it’s not working, the streaming service has managed to block the IP address NordVPN has given you.

This has happened because the measures NordVPN uses to ensure you can reliably use it with Vudu are no longer working.

This can be frustrating, but the good news is there’s a number of fixes you can try to resolve this issue.

This article will explain how to fix NordVPN not working with Vudu.

NordVPN not working with Vudu: Fixes

  1. Delete Cookies

    Cookies 1

It’s always good to start with the simplest fix. In this case deleting your Cookies.

Cookies are small files used by Vudu to streamline your online experience with the platform.

These aren’t dangerous or malicious files but they can be downloaded on to your device inadvertently, meaning you won’t know about them.

The problem with these Cookies is they sometimes contain information about your location.

If you’ve connected to the internet without using NordVPN your Cookies will show your actual location. If this is different to the location, you’re selecting with NordVPN, Vudu knows you’re using a VPN and will block the connection.

To make sure this isn’t the issue, delete your Cookies.

  2. Change to a different US server

How to watch YouTube TV abroad (outside the US) - NordVPN

The good news is, Vudu cannot block NordVPN entirely. The bad news is, it can block and blacklist NordVPN’s IP addresses.

If you’re coming across errors watching Vudu with NordVPN, the IP address you’ve been given has been blocked. This doesn’t necessarily mean all of NordVPN’s IP addresses have been.

Changing to a different US server will give you a different US IP address. If this one hasn’t been blocked, NordVPN will work with Vudu again.

  3. Change to a different protocol

    NordProtocols scaled

VPN protocols determine how your online data is rerouted through the VPN servers. Some are faster than others, while some are more secure.

NordVPN might not be working with Vudu because the protocol you’ve selected is no longer compatible with the streaming service.

NordVPN supports multiple protocols. We recommend using NordLynx to see if that fixes the issue.

  4. Update/reinstall NordVPN

    VPN update

It’s always a good idea to keep NordVPN updated.

The reason for this is because the issue you’re coming across might be known to NordVPN and it may have fixed it in an update or patch.

Updating it to the latest version will ensure you’ve acquired these fixes.

You can also reinstall NordVPN to ensure you get rid of any errors or bugs that may have arisen, and then install the latest version of the software.

  5. Upgrade to a VPN that works with Vudu

    ExpressVPN Rank

If the above fixes don’t resolve NordVPN not working with Vudu, you need to upgrade to a better VPN.

NordVPN isn’t working with Vudu because it doesn’t have measures in place to stay ahead of Vudu’s VPN blocking techniques, or the measures it does have are no longer working.

One of the best VPNs for getting around Vudu’s blocks is ExpressVPN ($6.67/month). This is because it uses a simple measure to ensure it works reliably with Vudu.

When an IP address provided by ExpressVPN ($6.67/month) is blocked, it will close that IP and open a new one.

This means you won’t run into the same issues watching Vudu as you have with NordVPN. And you’ll be able to watch Vudu anywhere in the world reliably.

NordVPN not working with Vudu

Why isn’t NordVPN working with Vudu?

Vudu is constantly trying to block VPNs from accessing its service. It does this because it only has the rights to broadcast its content in the US.

Because VPNs are a well-known and effective way of watching Vudu in countries where it doesn’t have the rights to broadcast its content, Vudu tries to block them.

If it didn’t do this, it would be found guilty of breaching the copyright and licensing agreements it has with its content partners, and these breaches are often met with massive fines.

NordVPN isn’t working with Vudu because it is no longer winning this battle with the streaming service’s blocks.

Basically, NordVPNs’ measures to ensure it works reliably with Vudu are no longer working. Vudu has managed to get around them and block all the IP addresses NordVPN can currently provide.

How does Vudu block NordVPN?

Because NordVPN is a popular VPN, it has a lot of customers. So much so that it can’t provide each customer with their own dedicated IP address.

To keep up with the demand, NordVPN forces its customers to share IP addresses.

Vudu knows this, and it monitors every connection that comes through to its platform. It does this because it is looking for an abnormal number of connections coming from the same IP address.

When NordVPN forces its customers to share IP addresses, it means hundreds or even thousands of users will connect to Vudu via the same IP. This is easily spotted by the streaming service, and when this happens, it blocks that IP address.

Usually, NordVPN can get around these blocks. However, if it has stopped working with Vudu, the streaming service has managed to identify and block all the IP addresses NordVPN can provide.

NordVPN not working with Vudu

Does Vudu still work with VPNs?

Yes, Vudu will still work with a VPN, but you need to use a VPN that has IP addresses that are still compatible with the service.

By compatible, that means you need a VPN that hasn’t had all of its IP addresses blocked by Vudu.

You can either wait for NordVPN to release more IP addresses that haven’t been blocked by Vudu, but the chances are, you’ll run into this error again.

To fix the problem, you need a VPN that plays a game of cat and mouse with Vudu. You need a VPN like ExpressVPN ($6.66/month)

When Vudu identifies and blocks an IP provided by ExpressVPN ($6.66/month), it will close that IP and open a new one.

This will allow you to reliably watch Vudu from anywhere in the world, and it will help to prevent the errors you’ve run into with NordVPN from happening again.

ExpressVPN ($6.66/month) is still the best VPN. And importantly, it ALWAYS has servers that are open with major streaming sites such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video, etc.

ExpressVPN is usually very good at playing Cat and Mouse with online streaming sites. Meaning, whenever one of its servers is blacklisted it creates a new one – giving its users a constant stream of servers that aren’t blocked. Needless to say, this is a valuable attribute if you’re looking for a VPN to unblock streaming sites.

Its app is easy-to-use and free to download on pretty much any device you can think of. Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, FireStick, Android TV, Roku, PS4, Xbox, Linux, even Apple TV (with a workaround). It’s got it all covered.

The app is another main reason this VPN is so good at unblocking TV streaming sites (that claim they block VPNs) is that its software takes a pragmatic approach to user management. While other VPNs tempt customers by promising them access to hundreds/thousands of servers in multiple countries, ExpressVPN does things differently.

With ExpressVPN you only have a handful of server locations to choose from. Once you select your location the app takes care of the rest. Assigning you to the fastest available server that’s not oversubscribed. This simple technique is so important, as it keeps ExpressVPN’s servers operating at lightning-fast speeds and prevents its IPs from getting blacklisted for “abnormal” usage in the first place.

Private Internet Access is one of the leading no-log VPN services with over 1-million paying customers.

This VPN is one of the best in the industry at beating streaming sites’ VPN bans. If you’re looking for an excellent VPN, with an even better price tag, Ivacy ($1.16/month) is a great option.

This VPN has all the features you need to stream BBC iPlayer, in HD, from any country in the world. I’ve been testing the app recently on Mac, PC, Android, iOS and FireStick and the results have been impressive – unlocking BBC iPlayer, US Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, etc. with ease.

The Ivacy app is a little different in regards to its UX (user experience). Instead of just selecting a UK server, you need to select the specific BBC iPlayer server. Don’t worry, this isn’t a bad thing – by connecting to a dedicated BBC iPlayer server, it simply means that you’re connecting to an IP address that Ivacy knows works with BBC iPlayer.

For an extra $1.99/month (£1.74) you can add-on a dedicated IP. This will buy you sole access to an IP address in a country of your choice, meaning you won’t have to share your IP (and speeds) with any other use. I don’t recommend this though, using the regular Ivacy servers is enough 95 per cent of the time.

CyberGhost is one of the more established VPNs on the market. It has a well-established, and well-tested global network of servers that perform well.

From my tests over the past several months, CyberGhost has no trouble at unblocking major streaming services – US Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max etc. This VPN performed well at maintaining download speeds, well above 65 per cent of my regular (non VPN) ISP speed.

That said, there’s nothing really unique about the service. Which forces you to look at its price-point. And there’s nothing special here. Its short-term $12.99/month price tag puts is well above the industry average of $10.10/month. Similarly, its long-term $2.75/month for 3 years deal isn’t much of a “deal” either.

Oddly, CyberGhost’s most unique feature is its a 1-day, no obligations, free trial. This is an appealing offer to customers who are new to VPNs. However, it’s important to remember that most reputable VPNs will offer customers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so try not to be too seduced by the offer.

Is watching Vudu with a VPN legal?

Yes, using a VPN to watch streaming services like Vudu is perfectly legal. That is unless you’re in a country where VPNs are banned.

The good news is there’s only a handful of countries where VPNs are restricted or prohibited, these are China, Russia, Iran, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, North Korea, Iraq, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Egypt, Eritrea, Seychelles, Suriname, Namibia, Slovenia, Nicaragua and Tajikistan.

With that said, using a VPN to watch Vudu in a location where it isn’t officially supported, does go against the streaming service’s terms and conditions.

In here it says You may not attempt to circumvent, avoid, bypass, remove, deactivate, impair or otherwise defeat any encryption, rights signaling or copy protection technology in which the Content is wrapped or otherwise associated”

What this means is although it is legal to access Vudu with a VPN, it does go against the streaming service’s terms of service and Vudu is within its rights to block or ban your account for doing so.

However, given the wide-spread use of VPNs, plus the many legitimate and legal use cases for VPNs, it’s fair to suggest that banning customers for using a VPN would be an extremely costly policy for Vudu to enforce.

In theory, if you’re trying to watch Vudu in a region where it does not traditionally operate, you risk having your account banned. However, as the best VPNs use military-grade encryption, it’s impossible for streaming services to trace where you’re physically accessing its content from.

There’s one final thing to note on the subject: Vudu has never banned anyone for using a VPN to access its service.
