SE Ranking vs Check Position logos on laptops

Finding the best way to manage SEO for your websites is essential, and that’s where keyword rank tracking tools like SE Ranking and Check Position come in. Not only do these SEO platforms help you find the best words to optimise pages, but they also offer competitor analysis tools to keep you a step ahead of the competition.

While SE Ranking and Check Position are keyword tracking tools, they cater to different needs and budgets. Depending on the tools you need to help your sites reach a bigger audience, and how much you’re willing to spend, one SERP tracker will be better suited to you than the other.

If you’re wondering if you should use SE Ranking or Check Position as your go-to SEO platform, check out our breakdown of the pros and cons below.

SE Ranking vs. Check Position: Key differences

Side by side, both platforms have one major key difference: SE Ranking is a comprehensive SEO platform, and Check Position is a more straightforward keyword rank tracker.

That’s not to say Check Position doesn’t have several valuable tools, but SE Ranking delivers a larger search engine, SEO audits, SERP features, and plenty more.

Here’s the thing: Check Position can be used entirely for free or for a very affordable monthly price – especially compared to SE Ranking’s starter plan.

If you can make full use of SE Ranking’s advanced security tools, then this is the SEO tracker for you. However, if you prefer to stay on budget while getting an impressive selection of keyword tools, then Check Position is worth giving a go.

Here’s a quick summary of the key differences between both platforms:

SE Ranking vs. Check Position: Price

SE Ranking offers many valuable SEO tools to help websites grow, but these come at a cost. Its most affordable plan, the Essential package, starts at $44/month (£36/month). This is the most appealing plan for many, as it gives you access to nearly all its tools, lets you track 750 keywords, and helps you manage ten projects (one project enables you to track your keyword progress on a site using different databases).

On the flip side, Check Position has plenty of subscription plans that won’t break the bank. You can monitor up to 10 keywords for your website for free. On this plan, you’ll get a free check daily, a history of positions and SERP details, and a comparison of results between data centres.

If you prefer to pay a little more, prices start from €3/month ($3.30) or €32/year ($35) for 100 keywords, €6/month ($6.50) or €64/year ($70) for 200 keywords, €15/month ($16.50) or €162/year ($177.50) for 500 keywords, and so on.

Clearly, SE Ranking can’t compete with Check Position regarding price. However, you’ll get your money’s worth if you opt for SE Ranking, too.

SE Ranking vs. Check Position: User interface

Having a clean, easy-to-use user interface is important when tracking keywords and analysing results. The good news is both SE Ranking and Check Position offer an intuitive interface that’s simple to navigate. That said, the former has a more detailed approach to fine-tune your research.

SE Ranking’s clean layout, informative labelling, and navigation make it a joy to use, even for SEO beginners. Moreover, it has recently undergone a slight revamp, making navigating it even easier.

SE Ranking Competitive Research Feature

Everything can now be accessed through the left-hand sidebar, which includes Projects, Research, Backlinks, Report Builder, and more. Each has its sub-categories, which can seem a tad overwhelming at first. However, once you know what’s most valuable for your website, it becomes simple to get where you need.

For example, most of my time is spent in Research, where you can check out competitors’ performance, keywords worth investing in, and how well they perform on different sites. Simply putting in a competitor’s website or a few keywords will get you an analytical breakdown of what you’re after.

On the other hand, Check Position is more tuned for beginners. Thanks to its intuitive interface, finding your keywords and checking their rankings is streamlined. While it lacks the more advanced UI of some competitors, like SE Ranking, its focus on functionality is refreshing.

Check Position Keyword Interface

It’s simple to add your website, the keywords you want tracked, and the country (and even language) you’re looking for analytics on. Simply click add, drop in your website and keywords, and Check Position will do the rest. The interface can look oversimplified for SEO pros, given there are only three functions to choose from: Position Tracking, Position by Datacenter, and URL Indexing Tracking.

No matter your choice, both offer user-friendly interfaces. While Check Position has room for improvement to provide more granular data presentation options, it’s excellent for beginners to get to grips with keyword research.

SE Ranking vs. Check Position: Features

When it comes to features, SE Ranking has more keyword tools, search engines, professional report creation, and more. Check Position excels at rank tracking but doesn’t offer keyword research or optimisation suggestions.

SE Ranking offers keyword research, website audits, rank tracking, backlink monitoring, competition analysis, social media monitoring, and professional reports. It dives deep into your website’s technical SEO, on-page content, and mobile optimisation. The detailed reports pinpoint areas for improvement, offering actionable and helpful insights to guide your optimisation efforts.

SE Ranking Report Builder

Moreover, SE Ranking’s comprehensive competitor analysis is always a big win. It lets you uncover their keyword strategies, backlink profiles, and SERP dominance, giving you the advantage to craft targeted campaigns and outmanoeuvre them on Google if done right.

That said, while SE Ranking throws around keyword suggestions, their accuracy and depth leave room for improvement, and the backlink monitoring tool offers basic functionality but lacks an in-depth analysis of dedicated backlink platforms.

Moving onto Check Position, it scores big points for its multi-data centre tracking. It analyses your ranking across 15 Google data centres, offering a clearer picture of your regional and international performance. This game-changer is for targeting specific audiences and understanding how your site fares across diverse search landscapes.

Check Position Features

Check Position also has its own form of competitive analysis, where you’ll get insights into competitor placements, featured snippets, and other SERP elements, painting a picture of the competition and potential optimisation opportunities.

While it also offers real-time results, meaning you’ll get a more accurate reading on how keywords and other websites perform, that’s really about it. For professional users, it isn’t an all-in-one SEO solution. However, you’re getting a more-than-capable keyword tracker for a small cost (or no cost at all).

SE Ranking vs. Check Position: Verdict

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your budget, needs, and experience level. SE Ranking may be the more premium SEO platform with a better suite of comprehensive tools, but Check Position also offers accurate keyword tracking for a more affordable price.

If you’re new to SEO and have a small project, Check Position should be a good starting point. But if you need comprehensive features and deeper insights for larger projects, SE Ranking is the better option.

Fortunately, SE Ranking offers a free trial, and Check Position is completely free to use. Before opting for one, we recommend trying the free trials of both platforms to see which one feels more intuitive and provides the data and features you need at your price point.
