If you’re trying to watch AMC+ abroad, you may run into some issues. AMC+ isn’t available in every country. It’s only available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and Spain.

If you aren’t in one of these countries, then the streaming service won’t work. 

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to get around this issue. All you need to do is trick AMC+ into thinking you’re accessing it from within one of these locations.

To do that, you need to change your IP address, and the easiest way is with a VPN.

How to create an AMC+ account abroad

To create an AMC+ account abroad, follow these steps:

How to download the AMC+ app abroad

The easiest way to watch AMC+ abroad is via the app on a phone or tablet. You can use either an Apple device or an Android device.

A phone or tablet is easiest because you can download the AMC+ app and stream it to your television. That’s what I do.

To download the AMC+ app abroad, follow these steps:

Apple

1. Download ExpressVPN ($6.67/month) and connect to a server in one of the countries listed above.
2. Create a new iCloud account for free
   • The reason we recommend creating a new iCloud account is so you can have two different accounts in two different locations. For example, I have my iCloud account I use every day, set to my home country, and I have other iCloud accounts based in different locations. That way I can switch between them when I need to without having to change the location of my main account.
3. Login to your new iCloud account
   • Once you’ve created a separate iCloud account, you need to set its location to one of the countries above. Go into settings, log out of your main account (if you’re still logged in) and log in to your new account.
4. Open your account
   • If you go into settings on your Apple device, your account name will be at the top of the screen. Click that to open your account settings.
5. Select Media and Purchases
6. Select View Account
   • Once you click View Account, this will prompt you to enter your password. When this is done, you’ll be taken to a new page.
7. Tap Country/Region and select a country listed above (preferably the one closest to you)
   • When you open Country/Region, you’ll see “Change Country or Region.” Click on this and select a different country.
8. Select no payment method
   • When creating a new Apple account, you’ll be prompted to input a payment method. Simply select no payment method to get around this.
9. Input an address in the country you’ve selected.
   • If prompted to put in an address, you can get one here.
10. Go to the App Store and download AMC+
    • Once you’ve changed your region, make sure you’re still connected to a server on ExpressVPN ($6.67/month) based in that country. Now you’ll have access to the that country’s version of the Apple App Store. From here, you’ll be able to find the AMC+ app. Download it.

Android

1. Create a new Google Play account and login to it on the Google Play store

Why can’t I watch AMC+ abroad?

If you aren’t in one of the countries listed above, you cannot access AMC+ because the streaming service is blocking your connection.

AMC does not have the right to broadcast its content in every country around the world, and because of this, it blocks users from accessing its service in a country where it doesn’t have broadcast rights from viewing any content.

If it didn’t do this, it would be breaching strict copyright and licensing agreements that it has with its content partners and would face severe financial fines.

In order to protect itself, AMC blocks people connecting to its streaming service from within these countries.

These blocks are why you aren’t able to watch AMC+ in the country you’re in.

How does AMC+ know my location?

Whenever you connect to AMC+, your IP address is sent to the streaming service’s servers.

Your IP address is a unique code allocated to your device to ensure that you can communicate with AMC+.

The problem here is your IP address, much like the area code on a landline phone, contains information disclosing your location.

When you connect to the streaming service, AMC+ scans your IP address, and if it finds you’re in a country where the streaming service is unavailable, it blocks the connection.
