Can I watch Channel Nine abroad?

Yes. All you need is a good VPN. Channel Nine does block some low-end VPNs/ However, good VPNs like ExpressVPN ($6.66/month) and Ivacy ($2.49/month) still work with 9Now.

Continue reading below to find out why.

Does Channel Nine block VPNs?

Channel 9 blocks IP addresses that it suspects are coming from VPN servers. At the time of writing, a lot of VPNs – TunnelBear, PureVPN, HideMyAss to name just a few – don’t work with Channel Nine.

This is becuase the 9Now website has started blocking certain VPNs from accessing its content.

The way it does this is pretty simple. 9Now detects VPN servers by monitoring the number of simultaneous connections coming from the same IP address. When the number of connections from the same IP becomes abnormal (more than an average house or small office) 9Now places that server addresses on a blacklist. This is why your VPN probably doesn’t work with Channel Nine (9Now) any more.

The good news is that there are still a handful of excellent VPNs that still work with Channel Nine (9Now). ExpressVPN ($6.66/month) or Ivacy ($2.49/month) are my two personal go-to VPNs for streaming 9Now…as well as Netflix US, and BBC iPlayer.

Channel Nine VPN Error

But using a top-rated VPN, it’s still possible to watch Channel Nine on 9Now from outside Australia. This is because the best VPNs – featured below – play a game of Cat and Mouse with 9Now. If/when their IPs are blacklisted, they react instantly, and open fresh (undetected) IPs for their users.

The very best VPNs, ExpressVPN ($6.66/month) and Ivacy ($2.49/month), also monitor and limit the number of connections they load onto each of their servers. This prevents detection at the source.

Take a look at our list of recommended Channel Nine VPNs below.
