9Now not working with VPN

I live in New Zealand, and even though I’m only a stone’s throw away from Australia, I still can’t officially access 9Now. To get around this I’ve been using a VPN to connect to an Australian server, however recently 9Now has been effectively blocking VPNs and my VPN has been struggling to get around these blocks.

If you’re running into an error that looks like the one below. Don’t panic, I was running into the same issue, but I managed to fix it. Here’s how I did it.

“Geoblocked: Access is not available in your area.”

How I fixed 9Now not working with VPN

The VPN I was using with 9Now was X-VPN. It was working fine but recently it’s been struggling to beat 9Now’s blocks and allow me to watch the streaming service in New Zealand. When this happens, I follow these steps:

  1. Determine if the VPN is the problem

When my VPN starts having issues with a streaming service like 9Now, the very first thing I do is determine whether it’s the VPN or my device that’s causing the issues. To do this, I install my VPN on a different device and see if it works. If it does, I know that the VPN is working well and there may be a problem with my device. If it doesn’t work, I know the VPN is struggling to work reliably with 9Now.
  2. Change to a different server

If I find that it’s my VPN that’s causing issues, I change to a different server. For 9Now that’s a different Australian server. This will give you a different IP address and if that one hasn’t been blocked the VPN should work again.

Unfortunately for me, changing to a different server only worked for a while and recently it hasn’t resolved the issues. My VPN has limited Australian servers and after going through them all, I can no longer access 9Now.
  3. Subscribe to a different VPN

The only other fix I can recommend if changing to a different server doesn’t work, is change to a more reputable VPN, or better yet, subscribe to another one so you double your chances of getting an IP address that will work with 9Now.

After using X-VPN to access 9Now I started running into problems often, so I signed up to NordVPN. And I haven’t had any problems since. I manged to get NordVPN with a deal that gave me a discount on the price and three extra months for free. You can get that same deal here.
  4. Wait for your VPN to fix the problem

If you don’t want to subscribe to another VPN you can always wait for your VPN to fix the problem. The annoying thing is there’s no way of telling how long this could take or even if it will happen so it’s a bit of a risk.

From my experience I’ve found premium VPNs tend to fix these problems quite quickly but lesser VPNs and free ones often don’t or take a long time to do so.
