Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven Review: How to operate
Cooking: Operating a halogen oven is easy. Place the food you want to cook in the bowl, shut the lid and then select the time (up to 2hours) and temperature (50- to 250-degrees) you want to cook at. This machine makes that process even easier. It’s the only halogen oven available in the UK that digital. So instead of turning two dials to set what time and temperature, you press buttons instead.
With that comes several preset that allows you to defrost, reheat or cook rice, pizza, roast or even a cake at the press of a button.
How do Halogen Ovens work? The heat that cooks your food is produced from the oven’s halogen bulb. The heat is trapped in a covered glass or heat-resistant cooking dish. This setup is assisted with a timer, internal fan, plus simple thermostat to regulate the oven’s temperature.
In tests halogen ovens cooked food 20% faster than standard ovens and consume about half the energy.
Self-cleaning: There’s one more feature the Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven has on its rivals too. Self-cleaning. This is great. All you need to do is pour in some water and a squirt some washing up liquid into the cooking bowl, close the lid, and press clean. The oven will then heat up the water using the halogen bulb and swirl it around using the built-in fan. This cycle takes about 15 minutes to complete and its results are great. Even for tough stains. On the odd occasion when stains aren’t fully removed. Just restart the cycle. Alternatively, all removable parts of this halogen oven are dishwasher safe, so you can pop them in with your normal washing up if you prefer.
Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven Review: Size
The size and general design of the Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven are unremarkable from its rivals. Its L 470mm x W 330mm x H 340mm dimension and 6.36kg weight is about average for the market. As is the 12L capacity coupled with the 5L extender ring. The one design feature of note is its digital user interface.
Some customers have experienced problems with the hinge, however, this is likely to be the case of heavy-handedness rather than poor design. The hinge is made from heavy-duty heat-resistant plastic, so it’s durable. However, a lot of the unit’s weight is kept in the lid, so keep this in mind when operating this, or any, halogen oven.
Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven Review: Maintenance
This is an area where the Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven sets itself apart from its rivals. As we’ve mentioned above, its self-cleaning mode and dishwasher safe attachments are a real positive for the cooker.
The easy to replace Halogen bulb is another major plus point. Halogen oven bulbs need replacing at the same rate as traditional halogen light bulbs, so making the replacement procedure as simple as possible is a must. Here, you need to remove three screws and then just unplug the old bulb and slot in the new now. It’s still not perfect, but it’s as easy as you’re going to get in 2017.
This oven comes with a decent two-year warranty and UK-based customer support should you need any assistance.
Andrew James Digital Halogen Oven Review: Attachments
The attachments that come with this oven are excellent. It comes with everything you need to make a wide range of meals immediately. The one negative here is that the tongs are oddly designed and a bit short. But you can use regular tongs as a replacement so it’s not a deal breaker.
